Bulky Block Party for Free Large-Item Disposal

 

A series of Bulky Block Party events across Oakland invite residents to drop off unwanted bulky household items for free disposal. Music and food trucks will be on hand at each event.

The Bulky Block Party is open to Oakland residents only – proof of Oakland residency such as a household bill will be required (no businesses please).  Bring unwanted bulky items for free disposal – limits are listed below.

If you miss the event, bulky pickup service is available to all Oakland residents, including renters.

  • Two (2) pieces of furniture
  • Two (2) large appliances
  • Four (4) passenger auto tires
  • Four (4) Mattresses
  • Unlimited electronics
  • Unlimited plant debris and clean wood
  • Unlimited recyclables, scrap metal, etc.
  • Small minor home renovation material
  • Trash (bagged, boxed) and painted or treated wood

 

 

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Mattress Drop-Off Event

one-day-hhw-flyer-oaklandcoliseum-r2-image_page_1The countywide organization StopWaste is hosting a free HHW and mattress drop-off event at the Oakland Coliseum on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Materials accepted include: pesticides and garden products, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, paint, electronics & small appliances, propane tanks, medicine, oil, gasoline, automotive fluids, household cleaners and sharps in containers. Advance registration is required.

Residents may also drop mattresses and box springs without advance registration.

Stopwaste will mail a postcard to Oakland residents near the Coliseum, and Oakland Recycles is promoting the event through our website and social media channels.  Download a copy of the postcard.

Details:

  • The Northern California Recycling Association (NCRA) is going door-to-door in Oakland’s District 6 to promote recycling and composting among Oakland multi-family residents and we need your help! Are you available to help us get the word out on August 22nd?
  • We will visit apartment-dwellers in Oakland to let them know more about changes to their waste collection services that became effective July 1st. The goal of this outreach is to assist the city of Oakland in reaching Zero Waste by promoting the benefits of composting and recycling. We also hope to develop community pride, increase awareness about the new curbside compost collection program, and clarify questions about what is accepted in the recycling and compost bins.
  • Volunteers should be prepared to walk up and down stairs and will likely walk 1 mile or more over the course of the day. Hats, sunscreen and water are recommended. Light refreshments in the morning and lunch will be provided as well as all other outreach materials.

Re-Create Art Contest Awards Ceremony and Exhibition

ReCreateFall15-DSC_4982Oakland’s Re-Create Art Contest Exhibition

Oakland’s ReCreate Art Contest Exhibition will open with a public reception on Friday, December 4, 2015, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Pro Arts Gallery, 150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Oakland, CA.

The reception will feature announcement and presentation of awards valued at $500 to this year’s contest winners.

The exhibition features artwork created from discarded materials by student artists in Oakland schools, in a hands-on application of the 4Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle and rot (compost).

Exhibition and Gallery Hours

The exhibition at Pro Arts Gallery, located at 150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, will be open for public viewing from December 4 – December 31, 2015, Mondays – Fridays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Traveling Exhibition

Following the exhibition at Pro Arts Gallery, selected artwork will become part of a Traveling Exhibition and will be on display at various Oakland Public Library Branches from January – March 2016.
